In April 70 Trefoil Guild members spend 9 wonderful days at Our Chalet as part of the Trefoil Guild's run up to the Centenary of Guiding in 2010.
Have a look at the news page for more on this trip of a lifetime with all its firsts and 'mountain top moments'. There are also photos to view in the Gallery - these will be changed on a regular basis, so 'watch this space'!
The next trip will be to Sangam in October 2009 and all the places have now been filled.

To ensure that the optimum benefit and mutual understanding was experienced by all participants, time was taken from the outset to socialise, get to know each other and become familiar with the language and format being used. (Predominantly English) This worked well and each country gave an informative presentation about their own National Organisation. Similarities and common problems were shared and discussed.
By a process of consultation, negotiation and agreement the following recommendations were identified for the Europe Region to work together on, in order to take full advantage of our unique heritage (Scouting and Guiding) and increasing unity and modern communications: -
• Promote and support the Regional European Conference, Cyprus 2010, encouraging all to attend. • Collect and distribute lists of resources and contacts to enable Guilds to work with each other, and Scouting and Guiding, both at home and abroad. • Encourage ‘Links’ of all types between Guilds. Include links for both service projects and social events – not just formal, long term ‘Twining’. • Organise a Gathering / Camp, fun event for all, with the emphasis being on mixing and having time and opportunity to get to know each other, thus developing and expanding a network of friendship. • Have a ‘News Page’ which is regularly updated saying what Guilds are doing and giving invitations to open events. • Produce and distribute ISGF Promotional goods and materials for members to use.
• Lobby the European Union for support
• Produce, and very regularly update, a European Website to publicise all of the above. Good advance notice with plenty of details should be given for all events. • A ‘Useful Hints’ resource could be built up from pages to down load from the Website to a file, on such topics as: - o Starting a Guild. o Programme Ideas. o European grant sources, travel concessions in different countries etc.
International Scout & Guide Fellowship is a world-wide organisation made up of adult Scouts and Guides with members in 59 Countries. There are close relationships with both the World Organisation of the Scout Movements and the World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts.
All members of the Trefoil Guild are automatically members of ISGF and can apply to attend any of these events.
Have you ever thought about Twinning?
Would you or your Guild like to "Twin" with another member Country of ISGF?
Alternatively you could choose to twin with a Trefoil Guild in another country, not necessarily a member country of ISGF. You can exchange ideas for activities, share recipes, perhaps visit your "twin".
Conferences and Gatherings - In ISGF there is always something going on. World and Region Conferences are held every three years whilst some sub regions also have gatherings.
2008 – August - World Conferences – Austria
2009 – August – Western Europe Sub-Region Gathering – Scotland
2010 - October – Europe Region Conference – Cyprus
Any members in Trefoil can apply to attend all these events.

Fellowship Day is celebrated annually on October 25th to mark the formation, in 1953, of ISGF.
As Trefoil Guild members, we automatically belong to ISGF, so it is very appropriate that the day is marked by international celebrations and activities in our guilds and counties.
As well as holding special international events money is often raised with a special charity being chosen to receive our gifts.
In 2008 suggestions for the chosen charity were submitted by the region international advisers and it was agreed to support the ‘WAGGGS AIDS APPEAL’. This will help many members of Guiding and Girl Scouting throughout the world to promote awareness of, and help in working to prevent the spread of the disease.
Please will your Guild support the work of WAGGGS with this appeal as you celebrate Fellowship Day? Donations should be sent to the Trefoil Guild office by the end of December 2008. Cheques should be made payable to ‘The Trefoil Guild – WAGGGS AID APPEAL’
Guiding Overseas Linked with Development is open to members of Girlguiding UK aged between 18 and 30 who are interested in doing voluntary work in a developing country. The Trefoil Guild pays ten per cent of the cost for every member of Girlguiding UK who takes part in the GOLD experience. The follwoing is a report from one group from 2007.
2007 marked the fourth year of another successful GOLD project in Madagascar. As a team of six, we worked alongside four members of the Mpanazava (the Malagasy Guide Association) to promote guiding. We travelled around the country delivering trainings to village children, Guides, Young Leaders and Leaders.
Some of the highlights included training 250 village children on environmental issues and teaching English as a foreign language. Then our eyes were opened by the views the Leaders shared with us during our women’s rights training. We were in fits of laughter as the Leaders tried to remove the ‘nuclear bomb’ from a restricted area during our problem solving training. No matter whether we were training on leadership, self-esteem or craft the Guides were always bursting with enthusiasm. In exchange we were taught many colourful and vibrant songs and games at the many campfires we shared together.
The scenery as we travelled around the country was breathtaking, and thanks to the generosity of the Ministry of the Environment we were fortunate enough to visit two National Parks. We were privileged to see nine different species of lemur in the natural habitat of unspoiled rainforest. At each destination we were greeted by warm smiles and such kind hospitality, as the Malagasy people are a most welcoming nation.
Madagascar GOLD 2007 was an unforgettable experience. We formed such close friendships among ourselves and with the Mpanazava. The strength of our worldwide association is inspirational.

Sow a Seed of Opportunity is the name of the project linked to the visit to Sangam in 2009.
The special fund-raising project linked into the visit to Sangam is for a Trefoil Guild Scholarship Sangam offers up to six annual placements on its Community Volunteer Programme for two three-month periods Young women pay £1,600 or £1,900 to live at Sangam for the time they are on placement They are given instruction and lessons in Hindi to prepare them for their work in the community with very deprived local children Each participant works in her placement four full days a week, and on the fifth day, learns Hindi
The money we raise will pay for young women to stay at Sangam for the period of their placement and help to give the children some basic knowledge which should help them lead a better life.
Contributions towards the scheme should be sent to the Trefoil Guild Office marked Sangam. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Four World Centres 2010’.
The fund will close at the end of March 2009.
